Slingerland push button floor tom leg rattles

Leedybdp,

I believe I will try that. Mine are still quite rigid, but maybe a longer or stiffer spring would help. If it doesn't work, I'm only out $2.25. I have a local hardware store that I got springs to replace the old ones for my "Super" strainer and butt. They aren't the same length and rigidity, but I'm hoping they'll work. Anyway, the hardware store has a fairly large selection, so I may be able to find some. Thanks for the tip and the compliment!

By the way, all screws are tight. I just stripped, cleaned and put the drum back together this past Saturday and I wrapped all the lug springs with felt...they didn't have felt on them previously.

It may be a few days before I get a chance to try this, but I'll let you know how it goes when I do.

Thanks again!

Vinny, thank you very much for the kind compliments. You have been a pleasure to do deal with also. I wish all business people had the same concern for getting customers exactly what they need as you! You are among the few who are willing to go the extra mile and I really appreciate it. You will be at the top of my list the next time I need good vintage parts. Please keep me in mind for pre-60s Slingerland snare and cymbal stands.

God bless! Keep on Pl

Thanks, Glenn! They really did - after a few tries. They will have my repeat business for any other needs. Initially there was some sort of internal miscommunication at the shop. I went to pick it up on my lunch break and the logo was smack in the middle of the head. One of the ladies said, "Well, if you can hang out 15 minutes, we'll fix it." So, I watched and made sure the removal of the logo wouldn't damage the head and went and ran some errands. I came back and this time it wasn't lined up parallel with the Aquarian logo at the bottom. The lady had gone by then, so another lady (that I had dealt with last summer for a band logo on another head) fixed it. She said the other lady is a district manager, or something like that, and doesn't do the actual work most of the time. This lady let me be OCD and make sure it was in the right spot, and actually thanked me for helping. Some people would have gotten mad at someone "helping" them do their job. I know some sound techs that would have said, "You do it yourself then, if you think I'm not doing it right!"

Can the push button floor tom mounts be drilled and tapped for a T bolt?

There enough metal to do that?

It would have to be at least a 1/4-20 thread bolt, which is pretty big. However, I would never alter any original part in any way that was permanent. I considered buying some brackets from the 60s or 70s with wing screws, but I want to make it work with the original parts. I may still go that route if I just can't get it to quit rattling. But, after stuffing the brackets with felt, it's hardly noticeable anymore. I'm just OCD about that type of thing and want absolutely no foreign noises.

I could be wrong but I think the later screw-type leg holders are interchangeable with the push button ones.

Keep the push buttons for originality but use the later ones for rattle-free and (more) secure operation.

I believe you're right. I just want to use the drums with all of their original parts. But, as I said before, if I can't eliminate the rattle, I'll do exactly what you suggested. I've seen some on feeBay, but the sellers tend to think they're worth about twice as much as I do.

I haven't had the opportunity to play this kit with my band. The rattles may not even be heard with everything else going on.

As always, I appreciate the advice!

Man ain't that the truth. I been watching them too. But $100.00 for three?

They better be 24 carrot gold for that price.

I need three myself to finish a 18" Slingy floor tom. By the time it's done I'm gonna have darn near $400.00 into it.
