Slingerland Modern Solo in ? Sparkle finish Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I just purchased this kit and could not find a catalog match for the wrap. It is a darker wrap with purplish sparkles. The badges and stamps all indicate around 1966. The kit is complete down to the cymbal stands and foot pedal. 14x20, 2 8x12, 16x16 with the push button legs and matching COB snare. Does anyone know what wrap this is? Any idea on value? The tom holder is all original and is functional. The shells are in fantastic shape per the seller.

My guess is that it is blue sparkle. I had one Slingy kit that was pretty dark. I bought an orphan 13 to match the kit and it was nowhere as dark as mine. It too had a touch of purple to it. If I can find a pic, I'll post it.

I really love the early Modern Solo 2R kits, with dual 8x12 toms! As to the color, yes it is Sparkling Blue Pearl, but just from a batch that had purple highlights. Use this link to see the different hues that Slingerland used... http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_4_finishes12.htm

A really great kit you've got there. Enjoy!

Wow, LOTS of variations in Sparkling Blue Pearl over the years. Doesn't make it easy, does it? :D

Love that purple tinge though... Oh hell, I like them all!

Man those are really nice looking drums. Great link to the hues Mark. Since Slingerland didn't differentiate, if they were mine I'd go ahead and call them Midnight Blue...:)

I just got them and they are in wonderful shape. The hardware is near mint and there is just a few tiny nicks and dings on the whole kit. The push button floor tom legs work just fine. The one pic makes it look like there is a larger tom, but I swear they are both 12's. The original tom holder works great and the snare . . . . holy ****. I must not of ever owned a brass snare before. It was noticeably heavier than I was expecting and sounds amazing. I take it back, I did own a 70's Black Beauty for a blink before someone offered me 10x what I paid for it (I only owned it for about a week). Anyway, I could not be more pleased with the drums. The bass drum has one of those emad heads that i am not a big fan of. The floor tom is amazing. It took a bit, but I was able to get the two toms to sound good together. They both tend to have the same tuning sweet spot. The cymbals in the picture were not part of the kit but are for the most part period correct. Because the bass drum is a 20, I know that I will probably sell them eventually but I am going to enjoy them for now.

They look great! As I said earlier, I really love the original Modern Solo 2R, with matching 12" rack toms. My very first drum catalog, given to me in 9th grade by my music teacher, was the Slingerland '68. The Modern Solo 2R was displayed in Sparkling Red Pearl. Just a cool looking kit! The purplish hue of your Sparkling Blue Pearl wrap is awesome! Enjoy your 2R!
