Long ago Slingerland used to manufacture and sell marching parade drums which were single headed toms with a metal parabolic bowl in place of a resonator head a la miniaturized marching tympani drum. Catalog depictions appeared as if the tympanic bowl was "tacked" to the bottom of the shell much like resonator skins were on the single headed toms of the 1930's. I've always wanted to know about them - how they responded, how they sounded, and if they might could be utilized as tom toms as components of a modern drum kit. Any members own any of these interesting looking drums?
