Slingerland Marching snare metals?

Loading...

So, I am cleaning up a really old marching snare from Slingerland. I know, they don't have a lot of value but what the heck!

Anyway, I was 'de-rusting' the really long tension rods, and started a little on the rim claws. I looked and they (the rim claws) aren't rusty so much as just a little discolored. I took my emory paper and scrubed a little on the claw. Anyone know what metal was used on the old claws like this. It seems to be turning a little of a brass color. Does this seem right?

Let me know, and many thanks.

-Kevin

These are the oldies with the single-point lugs and the thru-rods, yes ? So the rods are tensioned by one set of claws, not by the lug itself ?

They were nickel over brass.

So you may be seeing the nickel...or you may be seeing the brass :o

Yup long single tension rods, old school for sure!

I think I will just use some polish on them first, maybe that will clean them up on it's own.

Thanks for the help!!
