Replace with Ludwig/Gretsch or Rogers ones.........Excited

They didn't use that CRAP aluminum (or whatever it is!) that Slinger used............the one that corrodes all the time.........

Mate, they're 34 years old.. a little rust on some..not too bad.. (wish I'd aged at the same ratio)

Cleaning the outsides is easy for me, here's what I do. I use a battery powered drill and have a chuck from Evans that's made for using on a drill to tighten tension rods. I then use a tension rod that fits the insert and drill the rod into the insert. Once the insert is at the bottom of the rod (actually the end closest to the top), I put a small amount of Flitz or other type of chrome polish on a rag and gently hold the rag while spinning the drill CW. After a few seconds of running the insert in the rag of polish, I then use a clean rag to finish it off. I then run the drill CCW and the insert slips off very easily. I then use a third rag to ensure there is nothing left on it.

If you want to clean rods, I have a similar method I can explain later.

Soak them overnight--two days is better--in a solution of Dawn detergent in water. make the water very soapy with the Dawn. Any crud that is left on the parts will wipe right off.

that works out well.. I usually take a bath myself at dawn once a month (whether I need it or not)..

I'll lookup Dawn detergent (not on the shelves here) & find a local equivalent.

It is a dish washing (not dish washer) liquid. There is something in the formula that attacks the grease more so than other brands. Dawn is also favored by wild life authorities for cleaning off the oil spill gunk that coats the water fowl.
