No problems Kevin.....I love her too. It was great to have someone as nice as yourself in my corner when I was buying her. $900.00 seemed like a lot, but that is small compared to the Camco I got....

No badge on my bass drum FWIW. Kevin, I'd bet that there is 5 or less original Jet kits here on VDF, they are a rare bird. Especially if they have the original pedal too!!

Thanks everybody for your replies. I'm going to talk to my son, and try to buy the drums, I think.

If my son wanted to we could get 8 drum hooks and put a wooden hoop on the back without damaging anything couldn't we?

Yes, you can use wooden hoops with no issues. I would recommend only doing that on the batter side. Also I'd that's the original front head, take it off and hang it on the wall and use a generic for playing

In agreeance with all of the above..

Nostalgic Blurb..

Good if you buy them, My Jet was my first real kit, in 1967 I drooled over it for about six months before I got together the finances. There was one in a shop window in Sydney, Satin Gold Flame.. by the time I went to buy it they had sold it. They contacted the importer who had a boxed Blue flame kit at the warehouse so that is what I ended up with. It was all I played for around 5 years.. During that time I did once manage to snap off the hinged pedal tag from the "beater saver rim", and had to use a wooden hoop on the batter side whilst the rim was being repaired.

The jet is one of a couple of kits that I now wish that I'd kept, but.. vintage was the furthest thing from my mind at the time..

(a few years later I was running the warehouse for that importer)

Cheers

Thanks again everyone.

So we bought them. We got the two drums, the snap on pedal the L clamp cymbal mount, and a 16'' crash cymbal stamped (Ludwig/Paiste) that sounds pretty good for $475 cash. That might have been a little high, but I think we did ok, It think it beats the hell out of some Chinese made Gretsch Catalina drums.

We took the heads off and the floor tom is stamped Feb 65 inside and has a single top damper and no badge. The bass drum has a black and brass niles badge serial number 19844, and it has some birds eye figuring inside of the shell. While not mint, there are no splits or cracks or anything inside, no rust and the covering is tight.

My son is pretty happy.

Enjoy your Jet kit!

I had a Jet quite some years ago. Found it in the Recycler (local Los Angeles publication) and drove about 90 miles to check them out! The original finish was a weather-worn, cracked and spider-webbed satin flame finish! Re-wrapped in Light Blue Pearl. Came with the original Buck Rogers tom stand, which you can see was used for the snare drum, after I installed a near-new Setomatic holder.

I actually tracked down a Snap-on Tempo King and had a fold-down attachment custom made for the bass drum hoop. The floor tom also came with the original push-button legs, dating the kit to about 1965-66. Also custom built the Artist-style snare drum.

All-in-all, a really beautiful kit!

We took the floor tom apart and cleaned everything and put it back together, the bass drum will happen tomorrow probably.

I thought I'd share some pictures.
