slingerland jet kit

Loading...

I found these two drums for sale. The guy wants $400 for both. It looks like a bass and floor tom from a slingerland jet kit. The guys thinks they are from '62 and says he saw a bass drum "just like this one" go for $350 by itself on ebay. It took me a couple of hours to even find out what the bass drum was, so I doubt he saw one just like it on ebay but whatever. I did see an 18'' slingerland bass drum from the 60's on ebay in the same wrap for $850 asking price, but it wasn't sold for that price.

the guy has a bass drum pedal sitting next to the kit which I'm assuming is original, and I suspect I could get him to throw it in to the deal one way or the other but, I don't know if my son would really want to use it or whatever.

Can you use the drum with the rim (which I don't believe has an adapter) with any old bass drum pedal?

The bass drum is an 18'' and it is missing two tension rods, I don't know if the lugs are stripped or not.

He has it sitting in his show room window, which is probably not a good thing either.

My son is the one that would like to get an 18'' jazz kit together, he already has another kit and a few snares, cymbals etc.

What do you guys think about this deal money wise, and about the jet kit metal hooped bass drum, as the basis for a kit?

The Radio king snare and the other hardware are not part of the deal.

I would be more interested in that Radio King snare behind them. You should try to get that along with the other two drums.

The "bass drum" looks like an 18" floor tom. I would make sure its not converted. $400 is too much. If the seller does not get it out of the window the wrap will be uneven and more or less shot.

the bass drum is correct, get them down to $250.00 for the two drums. that is a Ludwig Cymbal L arm clamp on mount that is mounted on the bass drum.

Really? My mistake, I didn't realize those sets came with COB hoops on the bass drum. Thanks.

If it is a Jet bass drum, it will have a hinged piece welded to the batter hoop , the "dedicated pedal" attaches to that. A normal pedal clamp will not attach to the BD hoop.

Further to my other post.. The drums appear to be in decent condition and IMO would be a great basis for a Jazz kit at the right price.. 250-300. but the pedal (if it is the correct "Snap On" one) should be included)..

Cheers

I'll need to chime in on this one. The Slingerland "Jet" kit consisted of an 18" bass drum, 12" rack tom and 14" floor tom. I believe they actually debuted in 1965, according to the research I've done. Chrome Over Brass (COB) hoops were factory issued and you did have to use the pedal that clipped onto a chrome flange that was pop riveted to the bass drum hoop.

The bass drum didn't have a tom mount, that was an option, which they actually CREDITED you an amount for the tom mount instead of the stand that came with the kit. I have never seen an optional consolette rail mount on a Jet kit from the factory, except for what I believe to be on my Jet kit.

In the 1971 catalog, the Jet kit bass drum shows it being a 20" instead of an 18" and there was a Set-o-Matic tom holder and the floor tom legs are curved instead of straight and no longer the Push button style, but the hoops were still COB and you needed the pedal (No. 940)

$400.00 for both drums is fair and if you can get them cheaper, even better. A tom for that kit should be a somewhat easy find. If there is no extra holes on the kit, leave it that way and use a tom stand for the tom. A virgin bass drum is more desirable in my eyes.

Finally here's a couple of links to my Jet kit, which I got from the 2nd owner and it is played only a couple of times a year. 18 bass drums are very nice and can be very boomy.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

62 is too early to be part of a Jet Outfit.

Jet arrived in '65.........

The badge should be the Black and Brass Niles with serial numbers.

If that's a real 18x14 Slingerland bass drum they are rare as honest politicians.

I don't know for sure, but I'd lay decent money that we don't have 10 Jet Outfits with an 18 inch bass in the whole VDF membership.

By '69, the bass for the Jet had been changed to a 20x14.............

If the bass is real.... and especially if it still has the correct batter hoop, I'd have no problem paying the $400 asking price for the two drums and pray for a 12 inch matching tom to appear sometime in the future.
