Slingerland -Help With Year ID Last viewed: 3 days ago

Loading...

This is my first post as I've been lurking in the forum for sometime now. I'm a novice drummer (7 months) and I have a set of Slingerland's that I was told, were from the 70's. It has the black over aluminum Niles badge with the bass drum serial number of: 525464

The color I believe is gloss blue if that can also help in the identification.

One more thing, the tom mount on the bass drum was replaced with a Yamaha mount. Could anyone tell me if the double set-o-matic was original stock on this? The mount is dead center of the bass drum.

Thanks!

Sorry for the bad photos...camera is outdated!

I've looked inside the bass drum and the Yamaha mount thats currently on it is using 2 of the original Slingerland mount holes. The previous owner then drilled two more holes about an inch from the original mount holes. I can tell that the original Slingerland mount was still center mounted on the bass drum.

Thanks for your input and the welcome!

Welcome! Too bad the Yamaha mount was installed. If you can get it back to original without holes showing then great but if you cant, at least the Yamaha post will work.

Nice looking kit, I really like the color! Had a chance to buy one like that, same color and badge but didn't have the cash at the time.

The blue gloss finish was available from 1976 t- 1986 but the serial number on the badge looks like it would actually put the age of your drums into the early 1980' (80-82). The leg style and t-rods are consistent with a 1979's - early 80's Slingerland kit. While there is argument that the serial numbers are not the greatest way to tell because sometimes lower numbered badges got buried for a long time under stacks of newer higher numbered badges, the serial numbers in the 500000 range didn't even start until about 1980.

Hope this helps.

Thank you sir for the info. I suspected that this set was from the early 80's but also heard about how the badges were not actually put in order.

The shells are: 14 x 22, 16 x 16, 9 x 13, and 8 x 12. The snare is not a Slingerland but a Tama Metalworks 6.5 x 14 that doesn't sound half bad.

The cymbals are Sabian AAX with a 20" dry ride, 16" & 18" crash, and 14" Hats. The hardware including bass drum pedal is Big Dog with matching throne.

Thanks for your interest!
