Slingerland dudes...I have a question Last viewed: 1 day ago

As my handle would suggest, I don't know much about Slingerland drums. I ran accross a set today in the following configuration: 22/14/14/16/18. It's all there but it looks like someone painted over a laqcer finish. The shells are clear maple interior with reinforcement rings and there is a "P" stamped as well. It has black niles badges and the serial # one tom was 138XXX. Based on this description what is it, what era and is it worth more than $325? Thanks.

From what you are saying, it would make it a 3 ply maple set. The double 14 (Im assuming one rack, one floor) is an odd set up. But the 14, 16, 18 is kinda cool. As long as it has all it's parts I would say go for it for $325. But the more it's missing, the more it's gonna cost you. As to age, if its a sliver and black badge - mid 70's, if black and gold - mid 60's. But the sizes you list would make me think it has to be mid 70's. It's hard to tell with Slingerland serial numbers. Had set similar to this and it rocked. The 18 floor can rattle windows. Let us know what you do.

$325 is a good price, if you don't decide to keep it the 2 floor toms alone will easily cover the cost.

I read this to indicate a 14" snare and a 14" mounted tom with 16" & 18" floor toms. These sizes would be stadium killers for sure! Big ol' cannons, you could call it "Old Howie". A bank of Howitzers they be!

The "P" stamperd in the shell would indicate a wrapped shell, "P" meaning "pearl grade" exterior ply, not really suitable for stain/lacquer or natural wood finish.

Ahhhhhh. A 14" snare would make more sense. Why didn't I think of that.

Thanks for all the responses. It actually has two 14" rack toms; kinda weird. So if it was originally a wrapped kit I'm guessing someone removed it and slapped paint on it. If I can move a couple pieces I have for sale, I may go and snatch it up. I'll post some pics if I do...
