Slingerland double tom holder

Loading...

I recently bought a 60's Slingerland 3-piece set that has the old style double tom holder mounted on the bass drum but the post and pivot hardware is missing. The bracket bolted to the bass drum is complete and the matching bracket on the tom is also complete. My missing part looks like this: http://tinyurl.com/yk9oqlf

The kit now uses a floor stand for the 12" tom.

This works perfectly fine and I know a lot of guys use floor stands for toms but I'm not crazy about the look.

It looks like the old double tom mounts are pretty scarce. They look kind of cheesy too.

Anyway, what are my options for mounting the tom back on the bass drum without any new (visible) holes?

Will a Set-O-Matic post/arm fit into the old style bass bracket or are the shafts different sizes?

I was thinking about mounting a Set-O-Matic bracket on the bass but I think the hole pattern of the older bracket is wider than the Set-O-matic and the old holes would show.

Thanks,

Mark

That mount matches the one on my Slingerland Modern Solo Kit 20-12-12-16. Maybe yours came with two 12's originally like mine did... but you're right, not many of those tom mounts seem to show up.

On your solution, yeah, I think I remember reading that the next generation of Set O' Matics should fit that hole and slide into the existing bass drum hardware. That gives you a bunch more adjustment flexibility too. So just use the post and not the bass drum hardware.

There was a thread a while back that talked about this.... I'd like to see that thread before I went out bought a Set O' Matic rig.

Maybe somebody will jump in and comfirm that will work.. I'm 99% on it.

Best of luck and welcome!

Here it is... from a thread with David, Steve Maxwell and Rich K., I have to say information sources don't get much better than that!!

Rich K.'s advice:

"There's actually a pretty simple way to convert that double clip mount to a double setomatic mount.

Setomatic tom mounts use the same holes as the diamond plate on the tom. (You have to use the double setomatic mount, so there's no pole going into the tom. This actually works better even if using one tom, as the the tom doesn't get pushed out too far from the center of the bass drum...)

Slingerland made a setomatic "ball on pole" that was used on free standing stands (for concert toms, or double bass sets, etc.) That pole fits into the mount on the bass drum. Then attach a double setomatic mount to the ball and "voila," you have a nice, functional set up, without drilling...

All these parts are pretty easy to find."

That's good news. Thanks for your help.

I'll post a pic when I get it set up.

Thanks,

Mark

is would give you a single pole, two tom mount system though, right? (Magenta)

And you want a single tom mount? Is that correct?

hmmmmm....

So attach a single setomatic mount to the ball instead? (Lime)

They appear on Ebay pretty regularly, you would probably end up buying the whole mount though to get the part you want.

either would work for me, but the single would probably work better right now since it's a 22" bass, then again I might find a 13" tom to put on the other side.

So many possibilities. Here goes my bank account.

ebay is a dangerous thing.

Indeed it is... a double setomatic can run up to $90 depending on condition

I gave $70 or so for the tiltomatic that goes with the 60s Modern Solo I'm working on. Hope you search goes well!
