Hi all!
I have a nice collection of 60's Slingerland Deluxe Student snare drums in Red, Blue, Silver and Gold "Sparkling Pearl" finishes. My 60's "Salesman Sample" also includes Green and Pink Sparkling Pearl, in addition to Sparkling Champagne Pearl. I tend to put the Champagne in a category by itself!
I figured it would be next to impossible to find a Deluxe Student, or any other Slinglerland snare drum, wrapped in Sparkling Pink Pearl, so I set my sights on finding one in Sparkling Green Pearl. That's also a tough one to find!
As luck would have it, a Deluxe Student, wrapped in Sparkling Green Pearl, showed up on eBay about a week ago. It had just been listed twice for some odd reason! It had a BIN price that was incredibly low for this wrap, so I didn't hesitate to buy it on the spot!!
I heard from the seller a few hours later that it was listed twice because he made a mistake in both the price and shipping amount and was going to correct this in the second listing, but still hadn't gotten around to it due to the late hour. His BIN price was going to be the opening bid price. However, the seller was a true gentleman and honored the original BIN price. Cool! I told him to let me know the final true shipping price and I would pay the difference. The price was excellent and I included a little extra for his trouble.
I will soon be the proud owner of the Deluxe Student Snare Drum, wrapped in rare "Sparkling Green Pearl".
Attached are the 3 eBay pictures what were posted. From the first two, I can see that at least one tension rod washer is missing, along with the snare wires and a torn snare-side head. However, the wrap looks great!
I'll post more pictures when it arrives. And, sorry about the long-winded explanation. I just wanted to convey how this all went down.
