Slingerland Deeper Head Depth ? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Over the past month or so I've purchased the Festival (centre) & the 6.5 COB

on the right. the Festival came with what appears to be the original batter head.

I do not know how much this original head has stretched, but I do love how the rim on this drum sits so low to the head.

I would love to emulate the same "low" rim height on the 6.5 cob..

Are there deeper seating heads available that will achieve this..

(Drum on left is an 84 Tama rosewood shell that I Chrome wrapped)

Cheers

Well, no response so..

Does anyone know a brand of heads that will "generally" seat the rim a bit lower to the batter head.. ?

Cheers

I dunno if there is a brand with a larger collar depth but thinner heads would allow the head to stretch more bringing it closer to the rim

Perhaps the slightly over-sized Aquarian American Vintage heads would seat a little lower?

Dunno, just throwing it out there?

Thanks Kevins for the lead.. I'll look into the Aquarian Vintage range..

I've been thinking about this rim height / to batter issue..

I've been looking at images in the snare drum gallery,(In particular those Slingerland 60's snares with Sticksaver rims). Many of these snares have the low rim thing that I am seeking. It's surely got to be the rims themselves?? . I remember my first Slingerland snare (60's Jet kit).. it was also the only calfskin head I have ever owned.

On that snare the rims were only about 1/4 " inch above the batter, maybe some of that was due to stretching.. (I did have to tune it at the end of nearly every set).

On my recently purchased 70's 6.5 COB we are talking about 1/2".. & for me around 1/4' is the optimum.

I do like the Aquarian's, currently my 5 toms have PerformanceII batters & Classic Clears on the resos, but I've always "till now", used Remo's on my snares.. I think I'll just take a rim to my local drum shop & see what I can find out.

Cheers

I'm not sure if the rims are lower or if it is an illusion since the rims bend inward over the head. I can say that whenever I switch off of a drum with sticksavers to a snare with any other hoop, it feels odd to me for a few minutes. So it is possible the rims sit lower, never really checked

Re snare drum gallery.

The 1960's RK in WMP is a good example, (It looks like a pinstripe fitted).

On this you can clearly see how low the batter rim is sitting as opposed to the snare head.

(it's illustrated by the tension rod thread difference between top & bottom heads).

Cheers
