Slingerland COW - what is this?

A Slingerland shell for a project drum. I gathered all the hardware, rims, etc, and put it together. The built in muffler helps! But it sounds good.

A high# silver Niles badge.

Any ideas on this shell?

I believe the shell is from the early 80's and is Slingerland's typical 3-ply shell, but without the solid maple rings. Here's a good link for information... http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_3_shells11.html

Thanks for the link, Mark. The lack of rings puzzled me.

Three ply. Sounds like a decent shell.

Those 3-ply shells are nice! Here are some pictures of an 80's Slingerland J5 kit I had some years ago. The bass drum was 5-ply, but all the toms were 3-ply.

That's good news. I'd like to open it up a bit more with a lighter batter. That will come one of these days. But in the meantime, it sounds great!
