Does anyone know if the Concert King was ever produced in Capri Pearl?
Slingerland Concert King
I don't see why not as the catalogs state "choice of pearls" as an option for the Concert King during the years Capri was available.
I believe I have seen examples of such a model in that finish lately. You might check on some of the slingerland and vintage drums pages on facebook.
While Capri Pearl shows up only in the '59 and '60 catalogs, it doesn't mean it still wasn't available. A dealer only had to make a quick call to Slingerland to find out!
I just looked through all my Slingerland pictures and found this tom, with a shell date stamp of AUG 64.

allandwf, what date stamp range do your 'capri' drums have? I've seen '58 stamped 'capri' drums. Mark's '64 example is certainly interesting.
Just out of curiosity, would the same dating apply to Mardi Gras and Fiesta Pearl wraps? The drum department of my friend's store has Capri wrapped drums in two different pattern versions with the black background and another version with a deep purple background. Of the three, I prefer the purple one.

No. Capri pearl came first and was followed by Mardi Gras.
Capri Pearl shows up in the '59 and '60 catalogs. I don't have access to a '58 or '61 catalog. I believe Capri was cataloged in '58 and possibly '61. It is not cataloged in '63.
Mardi Gras shows up in the '60 and '63 catalog. It is not cataloged in '59 or '64.
Fiesta Pearl is cataloged from '60 thru '67. It is not in the '59 or '68 catalogs.
As Mark correctly stated, it is possible to see these finishes on drums made after their last 'cataloged' date. Not cataloged does not necessarily equate to not available.
I've posted this opinion before. But, this seems to be a good place to post it again. I love the "busy" drum wraps from the sixties such as Mardi Gras, Capri, and Fiesta. Up close they are beautiful. However, from a distance greater than ten feet, the drums look to be wrapped with an indistinguishable blur of gray or beige. This is also sort of true for some other wraps such as the various Tiger or Agate and various "pearl" wraps. From more than ten feet they tend to look like a solid wrap of the main background color of that wrap.

I dare say you have been one of the most faithful collectors of the photos we all need to see from time-to-time but can't find. Thanks for keeping those records.
It makes me wonder if the site could contain a section where those became available for times like this and so they are preserved for future forum members. Also makes me wonder if there is a concise way to search the gallery for a set or drum in a particular color.
