Did Slingerland make the COB 3 liners in the 60s too? I have a black/white badge (70s right?) 3 liner and just picked up a gold/black one, both identical with zoomatics except the black/gold has lug size reinforcement washers inside the shell behind each lug - serial # is 229870. How long did they produce Sound Kings? Thanks.

The 1967 catalog here on this site shows the Gene Krupa Sound King having a COB shell with three lines.

I would think so, if for nothing else the badge indicating that it's older (I think!).

I popped the Puresound on it and man does it ever Sing Sing Sing!!! I absolutely love this snare. It runs the full range of expressiveness. I can massage it with brushes, tickle it with ghosts, pop it along the edge and rim for a crack, and just go deep in the center for the fattest back beat. Oh man. This thing is amazing. I've been away from metal snares for awhile, favoring the more modern DW, Cravioto, rare woods, and the like. Since I changed paths at the start of the year, this is the only metal I've played or even wanted to play. Wow. Unreal. This beaut plays better than the rediculously expensive snares I've recently parted with. I'm sure there's a lesson in this for all of us. I'm just too excited and energized to slow down long enough to figure it out.

Mine sounds like a small contained explosion.
