Slingerland COB experiments?

So I have this COB snare shell. The chrome, like most that aren't $$$, shows scratches and stuff. The polishing guy I take pedals to said there's really nothing to do but strip it and it re-chromed... which would stupid expensing.

So. Has anyone ever tried presentiments on these shells? Sanding them with some patterns, wet sanding to a dull seen, or anything? Bead blasting, I was told, could start to blow flakes of chrome off it.

On the other hand, getting all the chrome off could look pretty cool....

Hmmmm

Really? No one's ever tried a modification? How about on any chrome drum, not just the slingerland?

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago.. one spotted on sale that had the chrome removed .. it was a bit of a botched job though..the grooves still had the chrome in them..

Cheers

just found that thread

That's helpful --- and it doesn't really appeal to me. Best to love it, scratches and all.

Although I do wonder what it would look like wet sanded, with 220 or 400 grit.

Anyone tried something along those lines?

OR.

just call me Mr. Guinea Pig.

Smile when you say that, partner....

Chrome is pretty tough to sand, takes alot of elbow greese.

Just a thought..(after looking at Blairndrums recent old snare resto).

How about a detailed intricate engraving to the chrome, like a pattern through to the brass & right around the shell.

Engraving kit, or a Dremmel & someone a bit artistic...

like I said, just a thought.

Cheers

Someone had posted up some acros and/or supra shells and had made a pattern by the way they sanded .... looked cool.

Either here or DFO, I'm fuzzy and can't remember.

I had a similar thought, using the orbital sander..... it'd be an experiment, that's for sure....
