Slingerland Capri Krupa Ensemble

Loading...

This is a drum set that I have been trying to "put" together for the last 2 years. It is a matching Slingerland Capri pearl 22-13-16 with the Radio King snare. From what I think I know, this would be a Gene Krupa Ensemble 1-N. Originally I had a 22" bass & 13" tom for 2 years that I finally put together with the 16" floor tom and a Slingerland black & brass Chicago badge Radio King snare.

I recently was able to buy a Capri set 20-12-16 with the matching Capri RK snare, and combined my old drums with the new one for this set up. The match is truly as good as it gets for Capri. Look at the floor tom & the bass, they look like they were from the same run of Capri.

Is that blood on the resonant-side of kick head?

Kyle, No it is red food coloring, it was from one of our shows last year. I had got the idea for this from a halloween show when I wore a pumpkin over my head and added the food coloring to look like blood. Some of the food coloring got on the drum head, but it was a fun show.

That bass drum sounds so good that I don't want to mess with it and change the heads. Someone mentioned that it is an unusual head because it has 2 Remo logos stamped one on top and one on the bottom of the head - I never noticed that before.

I'm just curious, around how much do you pay for your sets. I'm assuming not cheap.

Drumbum,

In general I would say that is true (not cheap), but that has become so as a matter of choice. I have decided to be very selective as to what I want to buy now days.

Most of the sets that I now have were $3,000 on up.

BUT most of the sets are complete sets with the matching snares, original, no mods or extra holes, in very good condition and in hard to find finishes from the 50's & 60's. I didn't have to replace hardware and go out and buy parts or spend extra money fixing them up. In the end I think this is a better way to collect/buy nice vintage drums for me.

This Capri set has been an exception, I bought the 22 & 13 a few years ago and I have kept them because I loved the finish & sound of the drums. I have waited 2 years to find the right matching floor tom & make a complete matched set for these drums. But Capri is very hard to match because there are so many variations to the finish. When the 20-12-16 plus the snare was offered I bought it because it appeared to match my 2 drums, and I am happy that I did.

I really like the drums that I now have, but if something really unusual comes up that I am looking for, I will buy it if I can afford it, but it is really going to have to be something special to me.
