Slingerland Blue Flame

Loading...

I picked up a Slingerland Blue Flame kit today. 20, 12, 13, 16 with the 3 line chrome snare. It came with a Slingerland pedal, flat based cymbal stand, and white top throne, a newer snare stand, and a 22" Zildjian A cymbal. A magnet did not stick to the snare shell and it has the long oval washers inside the drum, so I am assuming it is brass. It has the double tom post where the times are relatively close together.

It is in pretty good shape, but has a couple of areas where the wrap was bumped. I will probably tear it all apart and really detail it at some point.

It is complete as far as hardware goes. But, I do need to find an inlay for one of the 20" bass drum hoops. Does anyone have an original one? I saw a hoop with one on eBay, but would rather just pick up the inlay if possible.

I will post some picks after I get it cleaned up a bit.

Sounds like a later 60's/early 70's "Modern Solo 2R". Looking forward to some pictures.

Please post a "before" picture of the drums just as they are when you bought them. Your spiffing up will be more dramatic that way.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

They are in pretty good shape already, but I did notice quite a bit of pitting on spur mounts.

If it has the 3 lines & is 60's. 70's then the Snare is COB...

The COB Gene Krupa Sound King snare drum is an excellent drum! It was Slingerland's bread-and-butter snare drum, beginning in the early 60's and included as the standard snare drum with thousands of kits! I've had close to a dozen of them over the decades and have always preferred the shells that have rounded bearing edges and aluminum lug backing plates. Having COB hoops is also a nice addition, but the COS hoops that came immediately after are just as nice.

I currently have a '70-'71 that still has the shell I like and goes with my same-year Modern Solo in original Sparkling Purple Pearl!

I also have an early 60's, first-generation, Sound King that has the smooth shell...no lines! It will be used with my recently acquired 1965 Modern Solo set!

Anxious to see that newly acquired Slingerlland set.

Thanks everyone!

The backing plates were throwing me off, as I don't recall them being on another Slingerland snare I had.

It is still sitting to be cleaned up. I am trying to finish the 1967 Ludwig OBP kit I picked up about 10 days ago. Then I will start on the Slingy.
