Slingerland BDP - 3 Piece

Loading...

Hi guys. New to the site here. I've got this Slingerland Black Diamond Pearl 3 piece set I'm looking to sell (never had the snare.) I've had these drums now 30 years, no idea what generation these are from, obtained around 1980. Was wondering what you guys thought they would be worth. The drums are in good shape (no cracks) and the coverings are in very good shape. The chrome cleaned up awesomely, the hdw looks very good. Sizes: 20" bass, 13" tom, 16" floor tom. Some small details to take care of before it's ready for sale- I need the 13" bottom hoop, that got lost, but have the 16" bottom.

I've researched some here at the site, not quite sure what the badges are yet. Bottom heads are black, batter heads for the toms are black and a clear remo pinstripe for the 20". That's a clear blue Evans Hydrolic on the 16", I've got a new ebony for it. This first round of pics will be redone, my camera's not bad but my camera hand is, I couldn't get a clear badge shot that wasn't blurry. Anyway, wondered what you guys think about this 3 piece. -Thanks, sl9

Welcome to the VDF, go to the top of the forum page under Vintage drum Identification look at the serial number link, and you can find the year your drums are they are 60's but that all I can tell you as you stated blurry pics, I could make out the first two numbers but that's all, this is a very nice professional drum kit!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Try setting the camera down on a hard surface in front of the drum, zoom in on the badge until it is in focus & click. You may have to put a couple of books under the camera to get the right elevation. This should help getting clearer pics.

Just a suggestion.

Cheers

Hi Guys, thanks for the welcome :)

-vintagemore2000: Ok, great, I hadn't yet seen that SN lookup, just the badge page, thanks for the info. I had read where across the years SL hadn't been consistent on SN's or at times kept a cumulative database as such.

-grantro: absolutely, my thoughts rattled through- "do I have tripod for this thing?" (I don't.) Thanks for the tip(s).

What's happened is that I've collected overtime more than I can use. I've got a Ludwig Vistalite (clear) 8 piece double bass kit that due to personal choice, the 22" bass is more my thing than the smaller 20". What I want to do is get these drums (SL's) to someone whom wants 'em for what they are (ie- a good home) and for a fair # for buyer/seller. With the drums, I've got the "smoothie" hi-hat, one cymbal stand, and a Slingerland bass pedal. One other detail on this kit is that nowhere on the interior of the drums (any of them) has any stamp of year or otherwise. To clean the hdw, this was a complete disassemble, and unless I missed something, there are no ink stamps.

This isn't 'quite' a complete kit, the tom was a side flat slide-in mount (that broke off; the tab off the mount broke, the tom part stayed intact.) (I think I removed the tom mount, have to check/look.) This slide in mount point was from a tubular side base mount (that I took off years ago and is now gone.) Someone whom wants to mount some new hardware in a 4-5 piece kit off the base with a new hole is welcome to do it on this 20" bass.

I'll get the badge/SN stuff worked out and post back; thanks you guys for your replies. -sl9

Nice set ! Niles badge original 3pc BDP thin shells w\re-rings !!! If she's in good shape (no extra holes, wrap is good, no shell damage, & chrome still pretty good) that's a $500-plus set - eeeeeeeeasy Cool1 Add another $100 for the stands & pedal. $600 would be a quick-sale - you could probably get $700-750 if you were patient. Don't get your drift about the tom-mount stuff though - something missing\busted ? Don't see any tom mount hardware in any of the photos:confused:

I guess different people have different lines in the sand about this, but parting out sets of drums is a line I won't cross. These drums have been together 40 plus years.

Why break up the family now?

If it is 14x,xxx it would be about '67 by the serial number guide.

Nice set........ hope it remains a set !!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Thought I had email notification turned on, I didn't. ...didn't know there was new replies.

-jaye: thanks! wow, $, no kidding. Man, great! Yeah, the wraps, shells, and chrome are all in good shape. For all mentioned so far, got the drums, a gold sparkle snare that wasn't a slingerland (didn't like it, this is long gone), the high hat stand w/12" hats, a ride cymbal stand with a 20" ride, and the pedal for $300. This was the drum set my dad bought me when I was 10.

For the tom comments- this was about the 13" tom over the bass. Not sure how to describe this. The bass had a tube mounted just off center from the center badge. This tube contoured to the curve of the bass drum. From this the tom mount arm attached. At the top of the tom arm was a tab at the end. The tom had this mount plate, a square turned on end so it looked like a diamond and in the middle was a slot the bass drum tom arm tab would slide in to. So... you would simply grab the tom, slide it up and off, and disassemble the tom from the bass like that. Under use, eventually the tab broke off. Used a snare stand to mount the tom there after. After mounting the tom on a snare stand, I then took off the tom mount plate and the tube thing from the bass pretty much for looks at the time. Since, these two pieces got lost and I no longer have them.

-musicaldeath: worth asking, but I'd like to keep the three together -> I'd think it'd be more difficult to sell as 2, etc. good luck tho

-kevins: '67, ok. the toms are in the 132,xxx range

-kevmugen71: thanks!

Got the S/N's and a better shot of a badge (the bass.) Was reading how they'd put the badges in a bin and manually pulled badges when they needed 'em from there, wonder if this is why the bass s/n is so far from the toms.
