Slingerland Artist Snare-1968

Loading...

Saw this on ebay.

Looked at the catalog and it appears that in 1967 the artist model came solid with a maple shell.

Do you think this has a solid shell and I was going to offer $350 including shipping...

Is that a fair price (assuming solid shell)

This is most likely a 3-ply (pictures could be better). Regardless of what the catalog says there were very few solid shell Artists made after early '65. This is per Dr. CJ Wenk.

The seller is wrong about the '68 date (mistaking a 6 for an 8 in the date stamp). This drum is actually from Aug. '66. The clear interior, small knob tone control and serial number verify that. A clean, original appearing drum though.

+1 with what Slingerfan says! Definitely an Aug 66 drum. While his pictures are a bit fuzzy, it does look like the shell is 3-ply. Also still has the original half-extended wires, which is a plus! The BIN price of $400 is actually fair, given the condition and that shipping is easily over $30. I'm going to message the seller for the serial number. I had an August, 1966 Artist shell and will see if the serial numbers are close. Will let you know!

Heard back from the seller. SN is 123350, which is from 1966. I'm basing this on an Artist snare drum I had some years back. SN was 124182, clear maple interior, date stamp of "AUG 66" and you could see the mahogany outer ply just above the wrap. Pictures attached.
