Based on the Zoomatic strainer and extended buttplate, I would also guess Artist model and yes...those were solid maple shells! Didn't know them to be painted white on the inside, though. Probably an after-market job like the wrap job.

Definitely an Artist model snare drum. The Artist came in both 1-ply and 3-ply shells. My 1967 Artist is 3-ply. Chances are good that your drum is 1-ply maple. Just remove the top head and you'll easily see. Let us know!

Indeed a Slingerland Artist! I have a 1968 Buddy Rich "Artist" and it is SOLID SHELL, so the interior is all natural. Wires are OEM too! Here's a pic. Perhaps under that white paint yours will look like this!

Finally got this thing stripped down. Got the wrap off without any problem. Still can't tell if it is a 1 ply because of the painted edge but if I were to guess I would say it is. Here are a couple shots with her clothes off.

I would say that is 1-ply also. Way to go!

Based on that overlap seam, it most likely is 1-ply maple.

Thanks for the input! I was hoping that overlap seam might be an indicator of a 1 ply shell.

I'm not sure if that's a 1 ply based on the picture that shows the edge of the shell. I see some small gaps there that usually only show up in the poplar center ply of a three ply shell (since the poplar grain runs up and down rather than around the drum. Hard to say based on the pictures but you should be able to see if there are three plies through the various holes in the shell.

I have two 1 ply artists and they both have clear interiors and no visible gaps along the edges.

Either way they are great snare drums.
