Funny, the model 140 is listed in the early '60s catalogs as a 6 lug drum, but the photo shows 8. Then, in the later '60s catalogs, they say it's 8 lugs, still the same photo.

Those are the ones with the "crinkle" type aluminum shell, not ribbed like yours.

I've seen the crinkle ones in 6 lug, but don't remember 8 lug ones. The ribbed ones I've seen were all 10 lugs but I don't see them in the catalogs. I'm just looking at the catalogs on the web site; maybe the 10 lug ones are shown in the student snare kits section??

The catalogs as you Know Rich are a vague outline. Of the actual outfits and drums offered.

Mike, the 10 lug model has a cleaner voice than the 8 lug model. They didn't come in 6 lug models only 8 and 10 lug.

Actually, they did come in a 6-lug version! I have one and it has the early "orange peel" texture to it. COB hoops and aluminum lug backing plates. A nice 6-lug snare drum!

guess I meant to state I have never seen a ribbed 6 lug model, I have now owned 5 of these Aluminum model 140 snare drums, three 8 lug models and two 10 lug models the two 10 lug models both had cob hoops and aluminum reinforcement plates. the 8 lug models all had cos hoops one of them didn't have the reinforcement plates in it.
