Slingerland 22x12 bass drum help

Hey guys,

I picked up a Slingerland bass drum and have a few questions

22x12

8 Lugs

Chicago Badge without curly "S"

Capital "M" stamped

Date stamp DEC 19XX cant make out last two digits...fail...

NO extra holes

Single tom mount, very small, diameter of hole less than an inch

And to top it off, the drum has been repaired twice in 1962...

Even better, It has been re-wrapped in Blue Satin Flame hahahah

I think its late 50's, but what does the "M" mean, and what type of lugs SHOULD it have? It has Sound King lugs without any guts...(spring and nuts) with 8 very long tension rods going right through them that screw into the other claw...

weird?

Maybe an Ensemble 5,7,or 9 ?

The small mounting hole might be for a cymbal mount?

I was checking the catalogs, and the 22x12 bass drums seemed to have been used for one of those outfits.

I have one of those shells, but there are so many extra holes, I can't make heads or tails of what is what.

It might wind up being my next dirty clothes basket.

Shells to be wrapped were stamped with a "P". Drums to be lacquered were marked "M".

Those could very well be original. Slingerland made some single-tension drums with tension rods passing through Sound King lugs, as on their Tournament Model marching drums -- shown HERE in the 1960 catalog.

Yes that exact badge

and I looked at the catalogs and i can see sound king lugs on the ensemble drum sets.

And yes, they are indeed single tension rods

any idea about the finger prints on the maple rein hoops? I was told its some sort of film they used?
