Sleeved nylon washers

Hi all,

Some feedback would be useful. A while ago a bought some nylon washers for my Leedy Broadway to reduce the metal/metal contact of the tension rods on the rims. I was a bit disappointed with them because when I tensioned up the heads, the washers deformed and squashed out sideways rendering them somewhat pointless.

While recently stripping my newly acquired RK, I was surprised to see that the holes in the brass rims had become quite enlarged and that some of the tension rods had been reduced in thickness where they are in contact with the rims. It almost looked like some sort of bi-metallic corrosion had taken place and referring to the Galvanic scale, I now suspect that to be true.

I recently noticed that there are nylon sleeved washers on Ebay which should theoretically resolve this issue and also the deforming problems I've found with the others. I'd be interested to know whether any of you have used these sleeved washers and with what success?

No never have, just stock is how I use mine, sans new snare wires and heads.

I've used these sleeved nylon washers on many of my custom drums. They look and work great! The only minor issue, due to production tolerances, is that some washers may be a tight fit around the tension rod. I just try other washers until they fit freely. Normally, I purchase them in packs of 50. Bottom line is that I think they work well, especially with flanged hoop, where there is more play in the hoop hole vs die cast hoops.

I realized I had no pictures of any of my drums with the sleeved washers, so just took a few pictures outside a few minutes ago. The drum uses a Worldmax hammered brass shell, Drum Foundry lugs, strainer and wires. A beautiful sounding, and looking, snare drum!

Hi Jerry!

First, I love Blaemire drums! I visited Al many years ago, at his garage in Eagle Rock. Had a few shells built for me. Wonderful gentleman!

Next, thanks for the compliment on the snare drum. It really is a nice one! Just head over to eBay and search for "hendrix sleeved washers". Lots of them...in a variety of colors, too!
