*slap forehead* another kit?!?!

Yep. Hmmmm But in my defense I'll never loose money on the kit and it is something I have been 'kicking the bass drum spurs' on for a while now.

I was looking for a recording custom bass, 20" to build up a jazz kit. Then I found the D-20 kit which is way cooler and has a more traditional 'jazz' sound to it.

With that out of the way, the 18" bass was drawing my attention. Those little babies can really pack a punch in a quality shell. I was even toying with the idea of having a kit made up by the guys at Precision Drum co. in some cool wrap (green glass perhaps??)

Then I fund this: Early recording custom kit in black piano lacquer (never goes out of style) 18 BD; 14 FT and 12" rack tom. The 12 is a deeper drum from the "force" series mid to late eighties, but the bass is an 18X14 and the floor is a 14X14. I got them for a very fair price and I can have the nice cases for them for a bit more if I want them... Still thinking on that, but the drums should be here today and I'm pretty excited to add a 'be-bop' kit to my jazz kit and rock/fusion/anydamnthingIfeellikeplaying kit.

I'll strip them and polish them up but they seem presentable from the photos I received. Flawless black lacquer is very classy... I'm thinking white coated heads all around for the 'tuxedo' look. Still on the fence if I should use a early logo for the bass (like the D-20), the correct 80's logo, or a current logo. Minor detail but I'm excited to get these.flowers2

I expect I will get a standard 12X8 rack tom to replace the 12X9 or 10 deep (whatever the 'force' series was) one that comes with it, but for now it'll work...:)

Just wanted to share the excitement!

Nice and congrats. Not as interesting or flashy as some of the other older vintage American stuff but Yamaha's are the proven workhorse time and time again. Top notch quality that's unbeatable. So how much you pay?? :)

The Recording Custom drums are not flashy at all. Compared to the other Yamaha lines the current colors are down right boring! I equate the RC drums to the Melinium Falcon:

"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts."

Looking back to my earlier years when I bought my blue kit, I could have easily ended up with a Tama kit from the era (but the deep toms turned me off), which would have almost no value at this point. I am still blown away when I go from the D-20's (as nice as they are) to the RC kit- these blue drums sound so damn good!Excited

I paid just over a grand for the kit, which I think is fair.

I have them now and the condition is very presentable, but far from perfect. A really great gigging kit for sure. They look great from five feet and unlike my presitne blue drums, I am not going to be sweating every second they are out of the house. Light and easy to toss in the car, but plenty of power if you need it. I just wrapped the bass drum with a stick and I can tell it's going to be a monster for sure.

A buddy of mine has the same kit, same color, everything. His band opened for ours at an outdoor thing last year, and being lazy, I conned him into letting me do the gig on his kit.

WOW!

I was impressed! Those Yammie RC's are one fine set of drums. Nice find!

Omigosh,omigosh,omigosh........black is classic, and so are RC's, and so are the sizes. Congrats, those are beauties, even in that condition.

Thanks guys!

I am impressed how high the deep 12 tunes up, but I'm still looking to get a standard 12X8 tom. Even a 10X8 would tune up nicely for this kit and I think I know where there is one of those kicking around...x-mas3

I think I would like a bass riser too. The pedal has no chance to hit the center of the head on this 'lil baby.
