Single Tension Ludwig "Spotlight" Question

Loading...

I am looking at a bass drum and its a single tension club date style. I believe its called a "Spotlight." Its a two piece in the catalog.

I wondered if its possible to make this into a seperate tension kit. Is it as simple as getting the separate tension rods for both sides?

Thanks as always!

Are you saying I'd have to switch the lugs also?

if you have single tension lugs, yours are just a bare housing lug. the straight one piece tension rods just simply travels through the lug like a guide. you need the complete lug with springs and inserts like blair mentioned. might be the long bass lugs instead of snare lugs though, right blair? depending on the drum size too i think.

Curtis - I have 4 extra early 60's NOB/nickel over brass, bass drum Bowtie lugs dbl.tension w/the T-rods and claws. Let me know if you need them. You'll only need to track down four more.

If you have a P-83 laying around, I'm willing to swap the lugs straight up for the strainer. If you don't have one, no worries, I'll get the lugs to you anyway.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

John that is appreciated! Unfortunately I think I sent my only P-83 to another guy here a while back. I will hold off on the lugs for now until I get my ducks in a row. Thanks again!

I'd like to mention that I had a Spotlite bass drum in blue/silver duco without lug casings-just guides, like a marching drum.I left it single tension, and it was the best sounding bass drum I have ever owned. Both heads seemed to tune up pretty good to each other.

I converted a single tension Slingerland bass with pass-through Sound King lugs by just putting springs and inserts inside the lugs.

Don't know if that would be the case with pass-through Bowties or not?

The toughest part for me was finding the correct sized Slingerland sixties torpedo-handled T-rods....

I'm grateful to a VDF member for helping me complete a set of twenty.
