I had ordered a V set from a guy who took my money and bought cocaine with it, instead. After all that got "ironed" out, I decided to go elsewhere for my electronic drum purchases!

I never did get the V set, but I ended up with the SDS9...at least I think thats what the number was.

I had studied the V for awhile though. This is what I remember about it:

It was the top-of-the-line Simmons kit. It was kind of the flagship for all electronic kits, in general.

The modules, of the V were individually plug-in/out. All other subsequent models were all-in-one.

When they first came out, they were extremely expensive (I think it worked out to about $1K per-drum! And that was a lot in the 80's!

However, as with most electronics, the Simmons SDSV was outmoded in a matter of months. Today, the set would have to be almost literally Mint-In-Box to warrant any kind of value. Most of those old kits are next to worthless, now. I suppose if you find the right person on the right day, then anything is possible. Of course, when kids get nostalgic and wistful over the music of the 80's one day (God forbid!), then those old things might really become valuable again....but they aren't now.

They were never well-made, really. They broke down a lot. Playing them caused finger and wrist strain because there was no rebound on the pads. Modules were prone to going off for no reason...etc. They were a pain in the a$$ that looked really cool at the time. That's about it.

I have to disagree. I have seen some of these "vintage" E and V electronic kits going for real big money. I am not at all into them, nor especially the music of the 80s, just an observation. There is a whole world of collectors for these drums, and, like Commodore 64s, are gaining a devoted following willing to pay lots of duckets to get one.

I have sold some of these recently. Most of the brains can sell in the $200 $500 range.

The drums are another story. I had a red set of pads (Neil Peart had a red set behind him and they sold without the bass drum for $375 (4 red drums and two stands)

I have seen some brains go even higher if they are MINT.
