Shortcut to FIBES? need feedback Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I have in my possession a couple old marching snare drum shells from the Stingray Drum company. I made the mistake of buying an entire line of Stingray drums when I was the director of a college band. when the cases fell apart after the first year, I contacted the company and told them the cases were falling apart on 6 or so drums. They turned around and sent me 6 new shells - 14X14 , I believe. Well, somehow, when I left the job, a couple of the shells managed to come with me. They have made great planters, etc.

Then I found out that they were made using the FIBES process. SO - I can take the marching snare, cut it down to about 7", and with a LITTLE work (right) have a 7" X 14" snare drum.

What do you guys think out there? Would this be a worthwhile endeavor????

Cool you would have two 7x14 snare drums out of a 14x14" shell? I say go for it! also Drumjinx is our fiberglass pro maybe he will chime in

The way the air holes are drilled, I do not think I can make 2 drums out of the one shell. I will post pic.

I can't help but wince a little bit since the guy who founded Stingray was a friend of mine and recently passed away.

But with that said... Even he would readily admit that later versions of Stingray hardware were substandard and he'd probably be all for trying to get some use out of the old shells.

I don't have any of the hardware - just the shells. I will fit it with the best hardware I can find that will match up to the pre-drilled holes.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

The shells are great, but, you are right, the hardware left a lot to be desired.

Drumjinx could patch the vent hole (and any extra holes) you have in no time and you could have two drums out of one shell...
