Hi. I’m in the process of making a new 7” Slingerland snare from an old 1940s Slingerland 15” marching snare. Having cut the shell down yesterday, I wonder if anyone can ID the timber in the shell ply? I’m guessing mahogany inside but what about the middle and exterior? The snare had a Duco finish.

With a factory Duco finish it should be maple exterior, poplar middle and mahogany inner ply. Looks correct.

Thanks very much guys. I'll post photographs of the project and finished drum when complete. Still struggling to find a 3-point snare throw for the completed snare but will persevere!
