Sharing Kits at gigs..... Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I believe the Renown is American made shells, but assembled overseas.

I always like playing on my own stuff better.. I used a guy's DW set a while back at an out door small festival. He seemed slightly offended when I elected to use my Acrolite snare over his "$900 dollar David Garibaldi piccolo".. lololol

There are a couple of rules I like to follow when I know ahead of time I am going to use a set belonging to someone else.Always use your own snare and if possible your own cymbals and throne.I feel almost at home that way, since most of my playing is on cymbals and snare. Also, always ask before rearranging somebody's drums.Normally they say OK.Then try to put them back close to original and be sure to show your appreciation(don't tell them they are junk, even if they are.)Lame Sitting on another throne is the worst of the gig so try to bring your own. Then, pretend they are your drums. You might learn something from the experience.Good Clapping Happy2or notcrying2-07.

I own a Gretsch Reknown maple. It's one of the newer ones with the round black badge. I got the 10, 12, 14x14, 20 kit and a 6.5x14 Brooklyn snare. They are honestly some of the nicest sounding drums I've ever owned. The appointments on them are great ( diecast hoops, a nice suspension system that isn't ugly like RIMS are, virgin kick, GREAT finish ply,...). They really are better instruments than a lot of top of the line kits from the 1970's and earlier. They might not have that "classic" sound and they certainly don't have the "mojo" that an older kit has.

I also have a Catalina Club Jazz kit (12,14,18, 5x14). I took the ugly RIMS styled atrocity off the rack tom and put a Ludwig Atlas lug/mount thingie on it...AWESOME. Kit I have is the copper burst sparkle and they look fantastic. I know they are cheap little Asian made drums but they sound tremendous. The bass drum is a little cannon. I still have the stock heads on it and can't see relacing them as they are great.

To the original topic....I love sharing kits as I am inherently lazy and hate moving, setting up, and all that. I always use my snare, hats, and ride though.
