Sequential Ludwig serial numbers set - rare?

Loading...

...or common?

As mentioned in another thread, I just picked up a '64 Ludwig "Combo" kit that has sequential serial numbers on the tom and snare (the bass is a little over a hundred digits away.) I got me to wondering if having a kit with sequential numbers is a rare occurance, or a common one? Does anyone have a kit where all the drums have sequential serial numbers? Just curious...

I don't know what Ludwig did after about 1979...so I can't comment on the 90's kits...But...If you mean a vintage kit having perfectly sequential numbers, as in: "49041/49042/49043....etc.", then yes! That would be rare.

But it's not unheard of for sets to have numbers that are several hundred digits off, as in: "59041/59333/59909...etc." -or even: "56001/57211/59932...etc."

Sometimes, drum sets were sold without floor tom, as in: "If you want that floor tom, then you'll have to get a job raking leaves and mowing lawns.... etc." -which could be a way for a kit to be close-to-matching.

It's when I see mash-up sets that are like: "77721/130702/4997...etc." -where it is impossible to consider any chance of a matching sequence.
