Seen this type of wrap discolor?

Loading...

This drum is almost TOTALLY mint, except for this odd discoloring on the bottom hoop side of the floor tom. It's the wrap, not a stain and it goes all the way around. The rest of the finish is immaculate. Any thoughts?

Think it's possible the drum was left on a damp surface(rug)with no head on it,and mildew is beween the wrap and the wood.

maybe. Although, there are no signs of any other water damage, or odor. In fact, that edge looks damn near perfect other than a little flaking of the reso coat....

possible that there was some sort of reaction from the drum head(metal ring) to the wrap causing the stain?

Is it possible this was a green sparkle drum that has faded? There was a snare from God knows where on here recently that was green only under the hoops and lugs. It has faded perfectly to this exact color.

It doesn't look bad- it's like patina on a nice old cymbal

@jonnistix:

you mean this one?

olddrums, how does the wrap look like underneath a lug? That would clarify if it's a fading or the colour was 'added' otherwise.

Champagne Sparkle?

I believe that is from the actual copper bits in the wrap that have oxidized??

Yeah, that seems most likely about the copper bits. very weird. The rest of the drum, however, is lovely and sounds great.
