Hi everyone,
I haven't logged in for a couple years as I have been really busy. Everyone was very helpful to me (as a guitarist) when I found my very late 69 or very early 70 DownBeat kit.
Anyway, it had a "Planet Z" ride with it, and I always intended to find a period correct ride for it.
This 1970's one popped up on Craigslist about a half mile from my house! It is a 20", and weighs 2260 grams (which, as a novice I am unsure, makes it a "medium" ride?).
Anyway, although it has a stain on it from being stuffed in a drum bag with a sweaty t-shirt or something, I got it for $50. The previous owner told me that he did not believe in cleaning cymbals, so he left the stain.
He is a VERY VERY nice gentleman, who bought it in NYC in 1982 at a well-known specialty shop for jazz drums ( I forgot the name) which has since gone out of business.
Interesting side note, I always thought the 15" hi-hats and the 16"crash (paper thin at the edge) were early 70s like my kit, but upon comparing their logos to my "new" ride, they are definitely from the 60's going by the logo. cool!
Now, the pics! Finally looks "right" with that Planet Z gone.
