I have an S-hoop on a wood (maple) snare and it really cracks/ rim shots and cross-sticking is superb and cuts through the mix great. 'Fattens' the overtones a little...I use triggers (instead of mics) outside and the hoop would have to be notched to fit a trigger... Otherwise nothing bad to say - try one!

The S hoops are standard on my Ahead snare. Cuts thru most anything. Some mic clamps will have a problem with the S hoops design different from triple flange hoops.
