Ok, I searched around looking for the best ways to get rid of rust on these old drum parts...I came up with nothing.

Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Yup, kinda missed a large section of the site...I found it.

But, if anyone has any more helpful tips, feel free to chime in.

Thanks!

Soak in Regular Coke - then scrub with tooth brush or brass parts brush (from auto parts store). Work for small parts.

Large parts, like rims, scrub with aluminum foil dipped in water for lubrication. Won't scratch like steel wool (to be avoiled at all costs).

Many other ways, but these are least expensive. WD-40 will work on some of the rust items. But be sure to wash it off well when done.

[COLOR="Sienna"]Naval Jelly...heavy duty...it's very caustic, works quite well...but not on chrome as it'll remove the plating. But for screws, nuts, washers, or unplated hard metals....very good (use gloves).

Also, Barkeepers Friend cleanser works somewhat. Again, it's not for plated metal, though (also works superb on cymbals).

soak in plain old Dawn dish soap and water for as long as it takes....maybe 2 -3 days. The rust will just wash away...I use a 1 to 4 ratio of soap to water.....it works amazingly..........

Is there something special about Dawn, or will any dishwashing soap work the same?
