Rust prevention for springs

Loading...

Anyone have a good practice for keeping the raw steel parts like the springs inside of the lugs from rusting down the road? Should they be soaked in oil or something? I noticed some of the Slingerland lug that I just got had felt between the spring and the casing. The felt was oily. Sometimes you see grease on the springs.

What is the best thing to do as you re-assemble the lug? Oil, grease?

BTW, these came from Mikey777 and are beautiful!

I would spray them with WD-40 or wipe them down with light machine oil before installation. They don't need to be wet with oil, just a light film.

Has anyone ever soaked them in Acetone, let them dry, then dusted them with some rattle-can primer? I can't see where this would hurt anything and it would be a more permanent solution. Just wondering, as it fit's this thread, if anyone ever did anything like that before.

I don't use the springs anymore. Someday I will auction a bunch of them off that I have, because I replace them with nylon tubing. This same tubing can be used on cymbal stand posts.

You get the same size to fit on the end of the insert and these never buzz and never rust. Problem(s) solved. read about this idea on a forum somewhere.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

That is a great idea. I bet vinyl tubing doesn't rattle!
