THATS IT!!...What can you tell me plz?
Looks very Mapex-ish. Definitely not "vintage". Strainer, lugs and nylon washers give that away.
Looks very similar to another brand of snare I had seen before. "The Clevelander II" (although I have never seen a "The Clevelander I" LOL). See attached photos.
The music store I teach at use to have one (Clevelander II) in the lesson room. It was 10 lugs and looked like the photos below, very, very close to the Royce snare you are asking about. The shells look identical.
I don't know much about it, but I always assumed that it was made as an "educational" snare, meaning it was for schools and students, but I'm not 100% sure. I always assumed it was Mapex made because of the lugs, but it could be the same factory in China that makes all that stuff.
Hi wayne!
Unfortunately, I really can't tell you anything about it! Took your advice and did a Google search for Royce drums. Saw one picture with the single lugs and clicked on it. Turns out it's being sold by Steve Maxwell. Here's the link... https://www.maxwelldrums.com/royce-55x14-metal-snare-drum-p-15835.html

So there are a few drums that stump the experts here. I was certain there would be a few that would know the difference,.but maybe not.

wayne... not really sure if this drum stumps the experts. Honestly, I really just think it's an MIT drum that snuck in under the radar. This particular model is different looking, that's for sure!

I'm just curious if its a well made drum? It looks solid and heavy duty, and I can get it for 100 bucks delivered.....but why would I, if it turns out to be a dud??

Hi wayne...
Honestly, it looks like a well made drum for what it is. I like the lugs and the strainer is a decent copy of Pearl's "Gladstone" model. As nice as most of the components look, why did the drum have to come with such a cheap butt?!!
Shipping has gone up quite a bit this year, so figure around $30+. I'm not really sure the drum is worth $70. It's still a different drum, so the final decision is yours. Let us know what you do.
