royce drums

I have seen MIT's in poplar or basswood, but never maple. And I've seen wristwatch-lug CB's with 10-lug bass drums. Royce Pro-Cussion is later production, if it's the square silver badge. Ah, Asia- the region of misfit drums...

I have a Royce Pro-Cussion brass snare which is a great sounding and beautiful drum. The badge reads "Royce Pro-Cussion, Made in China, Northbrook, Il., U.S.A." I am currently using an Evans Black Chrome batter for that deep strong sound. I only use this drum for songs which require that depth. From my research, I believe Royce Drums are affiliated with Basix drums. I'm glad you found a good one!

P.S. There is a Royce badge for sale on Ebay. The seller maintains that it was made in Japan in the 60's. Entirely possible that Royce, like everyone else nowadays, outsources to China.

My first drum set was a Royce. I absolutely loved it. I polished it every month, and played to Barry Manilow, The Beach Boys, and KISS Destroyer. My dad sprung for Camber 18 and 16 cymbals, but I was stuck with the crappy hats. The 16 sounded cheap, but the 18 was actually a great crash/ride. That was a sweet beginners set, but sounded like crap. I couldn't tune back then either.

hey fish glad to meet you too! you're right about Acrolite snare drums. they really pop. I've got one acquired for $50 bones. sounds different than my Supraphonic but in a good way. now I want an old Ludwig Festival in sparkle finish. that's only cuz I can't afford a Radio King in any condition. hey people keep giving me drum kits and hardware! my percussionist gave me a Kingston be-bop kit in that old root beer swirl also called tiger eye stripe. cleaned up nice! snare sounds awesome. it's that much older, dark mahogany with 3 re-rings. most unusual round throw off. I like it. I will gig with it in two weeks. i'll put up some pics of these Japanese and Taiwan kits soon. I've got '78 Ludwig chrome over maple 5 piece but it's too damn heavy! I'm an older teenager now so...
