GREAT LOOKING kit!

The wrap reminds me somewhat of my '63 Ludwig Sky Blue Pearl.

I believe that the "Royal Star" label was used on early TAMAs.

I think that in the 60s the kits were offered under the "STAR" brand, which switched to the "ROYAL STAR" in the 70s. The name "TAMA" then came in sometime during the mid-70s.

I actually had a 60s "Star" acrylic kit, similar in appearance to a Ludwig Vistalite.

The difference between my STAR kit and your ROYALSTAR cosmetically speaking is that mine had round "STAR" badges and the upper and lower "bullet" lugs on the rack toms were spaced "out of line", similar to those on a Ludwig downbeat.

Very nice drumset with a rare finish. I guess that's called 'Oyster Pearl'.

Your badges indicated the black/golden Royal Star which was before the round/silver

Royal Star badge. If I'm right, that badges appeared in between 1965/1967.

(The STAR catalogues on the TAMA website are a little bit confusing to me:

I assume that minimum one catalogue, namely the Swingstar of 1965, is not in the correct

order: it shows the 'Fre-o-matic' double tom holder, which was introduced in the later

1972s catalogue as 'The new Fre-o-matic' ...)

Strange at your set: the double tom holder. That's definitely mounted new afterwards

and it is most probably a 'Tama' part.

If I see correct, there still can be seen the four former holes at the bass drum shell:

an indication, that originally the bass drum came with a so called rail consolette.

Consequentially, the two tom brackets are also mounted new lateron ...

If you look inside of the rack toms: are there extra holes now on the side where the bracket

is mounted? If yes: three or four?

Garlo, you know that I have sent you some months ago an e-mail as to your search for a

fitting snare drum with exactly this black/golden badge?! (As you didn't reply I sold it on ebay

some time later ...)

Tom holder: Yes, i think so. Double tom holder might install later but i'm not quite sure.

There aren't any extra holes in the side where the toms bracket

is mounted!!!

And holes of on the bassdrum are covered with look like orginal bolt!

Ralf, I read your post, but i forgot to answer that, sorry.

But i have an original King Beat snare drum now with very good condition ;-). See attachment.

I bought that from Finland, where i live.

Here are the types of brackets that STAR used to have.

Left side: mounted with four screws,

on the right: fixed from the back with three screws.

I don't assume that a further bracket was in use

under the brand STAR.

NB: nice and heavy snare, isn't it? I own the same

one, same lugs, but round/ silver badge stating

'Imperial (not Royal!) STAR'. It also has the parallel

strainer.

Ralf, that bracket on the right...you are correct, but...it is one of those situations where, if one chooses to be historically accurate, they are taking a hit on function. Those brackets, IMHO, were never very good.
