Hi fellas, I picked this one up on ebay germany and it just arrived today. I haven't cleaned it yet but I wanted to show you guys this one. It's in really good condition, minor scratches and rust. Mostly just signs of age. The throw off works superb and the tension knobs work even better then my Tama King Beat. A few snare wires are missing and 1 cap nut is missing and 1 is not original. Other then that I think this one is quite a catch. Let me know what you guys think.

Oh yeah, any guesses to when it's made? I'm thinking no later then 1972 but I'm no expert.

Yep, it's a King Beat from the beginning of the 70s. I wouldn't guess 1972, 'cause it has the tonneau-shaped badge, which wasn't the last 'Royal Star' badge: that was round and silver.
So end of 60s/ very early 70s should be correct for your snare drum.
Heavy shell, isn't it ?!
And the chrome was excellent at STAR shells. I have two King Betas - and won't even one let go !

Hey Ralf, that's correct €124 to be exact. It's kinda heavy indeed and the chrome is very good all over. This is my first Star king beat :) and I would love to find the wooden version of it. Thanks on the badge info, I'm glad to find out it's a bit older then I thought. :)

Maybe I owned your's some years ago - but I sold it via ebay, to switch to a King Beat with the round & silver badge that was matching the badges of my Royal Star drumsets (that was the only reason, why it had to go)!
Star didn't produce a wooden version of it. They produced some marching snare drums with this parallel strainer - but these had deeeeeep shells.

I saw this catalog page on Tama's website, hence why I said I wanted a wooden version. Maybe it was only sold in Japan?? If it was indeed sold anywhere it would be very hard to find. I saw the marching snare a few months ago on ebay germany as well, a red one. I obviously lost the bid, lol.

Ups - you're damn right!
Well, here in Germany I never came across a wooden one. Even my personal 4-page German STAR catalogue from that time (around 1972) shows only the metal version and speaks of an 'extra heavy metal shell' only.

Whats the difference between these drums and the Imp Star w/o all the extended strainers? I mean the 10 luggers with d/c hoops.

d/c = die cast hoops?
If that's what you mean: STAR didn't produce hoops in die cast. Even the latest models had triple flanged hoops.
Sorry: what do you mean with 'w/o' behind Imperial Star?

Sorry, i must be confused. Imp Star is clearly made by Tama as was Star but many years earlier. I have the Imp Star with cast hoops,10 lug, without the extended strainer and i was curious what ELSE was different about them?. Sorry to be confusing.
