ROYAL STAR Bongos

Here are some ROYAL STAR Bongos I found on the side of the road about 16 yeas ago being thrown out with the garbage. I had them in my attic all these years and decided to clean them up. They were originally deep red sparkle but the wrap was lose, broken, falling off, just gone, so I cleaned them up and stained them. They could still be re-wraped but I don't know how to cut a wrap for a drum that curves like that. They actually have re-rings in them. All the lugs and rims, even the metal rings at the bottom are still amazingly good.

The sizes are 6 3/4" and 8" Just need some heads and I bet these little beatniks could go.

You did an excellent job cleaning up those beauties! I too have a set of Star bongos. Mine are shown on the Drum Image Gallery on about page three. They're seen under Turquoise Star Drumset (or something like that). Again, nice job. Mine have most of the calf skin heads. I think that they'd be difficult to locate and probably quite expensive to replace.

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks Salty, I could probably clean the lugs and rims better. They have been sitting on my dresser. There are probably some plastic bongo heads out there somewhere. They take the kind that fit deep over the shell. Well, you know.

Just waiting to see if I run across a sale or deal on something like that just to get some heads on them.

Actually I'm restoring a DrumMate (= Star) drumset. The lugs are exactly the same like yours. If you clean them up with steel-wool in the fineness '0', it's as worked out wonders at my lugs: I even didn't have to clean them afterwards with chrome polish or similar liquids!
