Rototom Question

Hello,

I recently acquired a set of original Remo Beeline Rototoms. They are in decent shape, but the main screw that connects the rototom to the bar holder/stand was badly bent on all three rototoms. Here's my question:

The carriage screw that supports the rototom and spins on (and also slides on to the bar stand) are obviously threaded all the way to the head of the carriage bolt, because that's how the "handle" tightens down to secure the rototom to the bar stand. The carriage bolts are 3/8" thread, and are 7" long. The problem I am running into is that all the replacement carriage bolts I have found that are 7" in length, aren't threaded all the way to the head of the screw. which means that it won't work, because the "handle" that acts as the tightener to the bar won't be able to thread all the way down to get tight enough to secure the rototom to the bar stand.

I have found 6" length carriage screws that are threaded all the way to the head. Do you think that using a 1" shorter screw will have any effect on the functionality of the rototom?

I say no, because they have plenty of extra "slack" to turn for a long time on the existing 7" screws. The only difference would be that they would sit 1" shorter on the stand than normal, but you could just raise the stand 1" to compensate for that.

What do you think?

I don't think the 1" will make any difference.

Should be fine... an alternative is to buy some threaded bar stock that is sold by the Metre/Yard... and cut to the correct length..

Also remember not all bolts are created equally. There's different grades. And you want to be sure the notch under the head fits correctly into the bar slot. If it's larger it might not sit level which will pitch the toms out at a angle. I remember mine new had this problem slightly with factory hardware. And some of the toms were angled away from each other. Drove me a bit nuts at first. I have seen some bend those bolts on purpose to help correct this or get more angle. Unless they fell and got slammed and bent. I hope it works out well. Sometimes the simplest fixes are quite the pain in the a$$!

If they came with the handle, they are the second series, that`s the only difference between the two. Mine had just a nut and getting the wrench in there sucked, took me a while but I got three handles and put them on, one don't match the other two but it`s better than using the wrench.

I also agree, get bar stock cut to your length. Like attic air conditioner hanging bars.

Not sure where you are but my local Home Depot carries carriage head bolts with full length threads. Buy them too long and cut down if you have to or go whit the ones that are an inch short they will work fine.
