I must say there is never a solid hard rule for Rogers, 14x 14's are hard to find period! but fullertons come in alot of surprises i have a set that has two floor toms 1 16x16 and 1 16x18 one has the cast type knobbies one has the Machined one has a powertone tag the other has a holiday tag and both say Fullerton..so it depends on when they were bout and what parts Rogers had left over this set was all bought at the same time yet there are differences...

Absolutely correct Mike T!... and,

Imagine... I have THREE Rogers 14x14 floor toms, all Cleveland, and all in WMP! The thing with the Fullerton manufactured drums is just that: WHEN were they built... and with WHAT parts? In this case though, the particular 14X14 that we are talking about here is a LATER Fullerton manufactured drum for the very reasons I pointed out. You are correct though,

There was a better than fair amount of "cross-over" with Rogers back in the day... and with ALL the American drum manufacturers actually. As has been said many times: They were just building drums!! Little did any of 'em know how much scrutiny their drums would be subjected to down the road!

By the way... nice set of Rogers you have there Mike! You should round up some period Rogers hardware for those! Nice! :-)

mlVibes,

This reply is not in the order of the thread as it has morphed into a discussion of manuafacturing locations. You initially said you wanted to do the drum in black onyx and that the finish was no longer produced. I like the finish and was considering doing a rewrap with it. I surfed the web and found that Steve Maxwell is offering a snare on his web page that is covered in what he refers to as "the new black onyx." I don't know if this works for you but I am looking into it.

Gary, thanks for thinking of me. Jammin Sam offers a Black Onyx wrap that looks like that, and it's beautiful. But to me, it just wasn't a close enough match to the original, which seems to have a little more depth to it. I'm a little ocd with that stuff.

The WMP 14x14 sold on the bay a few weeks ago...the Black Onyx kit it was going to go with is now on the bay...

I agree, it's definitely not the same. It's frustrating, I can't seem to find a decent selection of wraps. I have not found a provider of coverings that match the old ones. They are always altered to some extent. There are a couple of glass glitters that are good but everything else is different. I don't know if that's your black onyx kit with the 18" kick on ebay but that is one fine finish and the new stuff doesn't have the same look.

All the wrap sellers (and drum manufacturers) get their wrap from the same place (Delmar). And they all have the same stuff. The repro black onyx or red sparkle that Jammin' Sam has is the same as Precision's, drum supply house, etc.

Some companies like DW and Tama will order a large batch of a wrap and get an exclusive on it for a while (like Tama's new cirtus mod, mod orange and psych red), but I think they'll eventually be available to everyone.

Custom and special orders can be done, but the minimun order is 500 sheets.

I've read where the materials and manufacturing process is different now than it was in the past, which is why many of today's wraps don't have the same lok or depth.
