Rogers Toms Identification! Paging The Ploughman!

Loading...

So I went ahead and rolled the dice on these two toms online for $100.00 to try and piece together a Rogers Kit. These are the only pics I have as of now but should have some more in a few days when the they actually get here. I know they are probably 70's Fullerton (Grey Speckled interior) but was curious about the floor tom because it was sold to me as a 14 inch and I do not see any 14 inch floor toms is the 70's catalog in the drum guide. The other tom is a 13 inch. I am also not sure of the wrap which kind of looks like a Natural Maple Blond wrap from the 70's Rogers finish in the guide but could be a re-wrap as I see some pretty heavy seam lifting on the floor tom. I guess it could be a Koa also but looks a little light to my eyes. I also do not see any interior stickers. Any way I am just wondering what the experts think I actually purchased! Thanks in advance!!

All of these interior shots are of the 13inch.

So there is no tag inside? I thought it was a Koa, but it does look light-ish. I had a friend with a 70's white Swivo kit that had a 14" floor. You could special order them. I haven't ever seen one on eBay that I can recall, so they are certainly not common. They sound great though, so for a $100, you stole those drums. In the boom, I saw 60's Rogers 14" x 14" go for $1500. Admittedly they were sparkle drums, but nonetheless, that's a great find. Please post when you can see what's under the wrap.

Thanks Trout! Be interested to see if there even is a tag inside. I can't see anything on any of those interior shots of the 13 inch.

Wow! Really Ploughman? That is cool. Are you sure they are 9/72?

I see a cast 9/72 collet tensioner on one drum. I cant see any big badge shadow on any of the shells. If it is a small tag shadow, then its definitely 9/72. And ..... they could quite possibly be three ply shells.

They are probably '9/72' drums. Those little tags have a tendency to fall off. That looks like the Koa finish, it's lighter than the New Mahogany finish.

That floor tom looks a little large for a 14", hopefully it is that size. Worth a lot more money if it is, but for $100 you got a screamin' deal either way.

The 1970 catalog, which was used until 1973, showed a 14" floor tom.

The 1973 catalog does not. And it's not listed in the price sheet for 1973 either.

A person probably could have one by special order, but either way the drums were fundamentally the same until 1975. Primary difference is the cast leg mounts which came along around 1972.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

I thought the floor looked like a 16 as well. Guess I will find out when the UPS truck gets here in the next couple days.

16 would make more sense if the other tom is 13.
