Rogers Swivomatic Pedal Base

Loading...

I have 3 base plates and each has 3 holes to swivel the footboard.

My main pedal had the key screw in the middle hole but I wanted to

move it to an outside hole so I could get a greater angle.

When I tried I noticed that the 2 outside holes are a bit smaller the the middle and the key screw would not fit into either.

At first I thought this was just a fluke but then I went to my 2 other base plates and the situation is the same.. The middle hole is slightly larger than the outside ones and the screw will not fit into either.

Why are there 3 holes if you can't use the innermost and outermost

Ken,

Even though there are 3 holes, only the middle hole is tapped for the screw. There was probably a use for these 3 holes in the past, but not sure how they were used. How much "angle" to do you really need? I'm mean, really, for any normal position, the footboard will swivel quite a bit. I've never had the need to swivel my footboard.

thanks Mark...I figured Thompson must have had a reason for putting those extra holes there. BTW, I think the pedal plays better with no angle on the footboard

I did some searching, which anyone can do, and came up with this website...http://home.r01.itscom.net/rogers/eRkick.shtml

It shows the first-generation pedal, with all three holes threaded so you can position the footboard more to the left or right. This is also the same pedal that makes use of mystery screw #77, which I was able to find a description for in a patent pending drawing. Like this screw, it was probably determined that few, if any, drummers ever used these left/right screw positions in the base and eventually Rogers stopped tapping them for use, also saving a little money during production. Just my educated guess, but seems logical.
