Rogers Swivo

Loading...

I am so freekin' happy.

I picked up the Rogers Jazz kit from Steve's a while back and have been futzing with the tom adjustment all this time. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get the 12 to that perfect position.

Well, I finally got it. I raised it up and worked it in towards the player side and it magically "dropped" into the perfect placement. I quickly tightened it all down.

I may weld it.

Anyway, just thought I'd share the good news and add to the list of Swivo Conquorers.

Of all the vintage mounting hardware, Rogers has to be the best. Set it and forget it, not sure I'd weld it, but it sounds tempting.

I've also been frustrated with some slippage on several swivo tom-mount receivers (especially the receiver for the double-tom post), but in every case it was due to the inferior, cast collet wing nuts. I've swapped out some of these cast versions for the machined Cleveland versions even though they're not period-correct on my Fullertons. Another way I've avoid slippage is to install a tiny hose clamp on the hex tom post, which acts almost like the memory clamps of the Memriloc system, without permanently altering the hardware.

The fact that so many great drummers swapped out their stock tom mounts for Swivo hardware is testimony that Rogers got it right.

My 59' George Way bass drum was outfitted with a Rogers swivo mounts when it was purchased. (1959) When I bought the drum, I felt like I would have much preferred to have the original Geo. Way mount on there, but the truth is, the swivo hardware works better and actually looks better than anything else. I bow to the wisdom that drummer Eddie Knight displayed back in 59' by customizing the George Way drum with the more utilitarian Rogers Swivo hardware. My entire Camco/Geo.Way orphan kit is outfitted with Rogers swivo hardware. Looks killer on the drums... and it works!

Just a little heads up on rogers swivo tom holders any of them... the set screw when new are concave on the bottom or end that contacts the ball over time these become flat and loose their holding power just put the square end in a vise on a drill press take a 1/8th drill bit (sharp) and concave the end again just a little bit this leaves a sharper edge around the screw and it will hold like new....

This one took an odd turn.

All I was saying is that I finally got my Rogers 12 Tom to sit perfect on top of the 20 bass. That's all.

LOL - can't control the direction a conversation will take sometimes. Obviously there was a need for some of us to express our love for Rogers hardware. It's a strange thing being in love with hardware... you don't get to say, 'I love you' often enough! Falling Do
