I just purchased a vintage Rogers Holiday Red Onyx kit from the Cleveland-era in the smaller jazz sizes (20/12/14). The prior owner threw in a Pearl EX Export Series snare drum, original hi-hat stand, throne and cymbal and snare drum stands at a price I simply couldn't refuse. I haven't had a chance to "clean it up" as of yet, but attached a pic of the toms, as purchased.
Over-all, the kit's in pretty nice shape, both functionally and cosmetically. However, the wrap on the bass drum has a rather long meandering crack in it. Because of this, I've got to decide what to do with this particular piece. The way I see it, I've got several choices:
1. Wait for another 20 inch Rogers kick in the matching Red Onyx wrap, which might take some time and sell the current one;
2. See if there's a company that stocks the matching Rogers Red Onyx wrap and have the bass drum re-wrapped;
3. Have the entire kit re-wrapped in the the Red Onyx finish or some other choice; or
4. Have the bass drum re-wrapped in a Blue Onyx finish to create a sort of "patriotic" look for the kit.
I'm hoping to get some feedback regarding the above choices and any others that you might have for the kit.
Also, are Rogers' 14 inch floor toms fairly rare to find in decent condition? I've got two other vintage Rogers kits (Black Diamond Pearl & Champagne Sparkle) and they're both in the 20/12/16 configuration.
As usual, THANKS in advance for your ideas!Help2
