They look like this. I could make this shell look good with paint or stain with a shaded lacquer.

They must have changed the way they make it because the drum I have in modern silver glass glitter is not anywhere close to the same silvery color of my original 60's drums. I'm talking about Gretsch drums though so maybe Rogers were different. There were multiple suppliers of drum wrap back then (which is why there were two different types of sparkle wraps, some used metal particles and some used crushed glass as their sparkle medium ) so maybe Rogers were different, although I believe the ones I've seen have been pretty silver.
KO, you are correct and I stand corrected. I went upstairs and took another look. In my incandescent lighting, it all looks very close (see photo with unfaded kit). However, when I used a flash, the original is much more silvery. The comparison is an unfaded Tower vs a newer drum. The new does look like an aged silver glass, which is great if a kit has some aging. See photo with an aged 1960 Rogers B&B drum.
Does this look like your drum compared to your 60’s Gretsch? Did the Gretsch also have the orange peel texture for their glass finishes?
I also included comparisons of gold and green. All Rogers snares are the original, unfaded wraps.
Generally the new glass appears a bit darker. The glass chunks are very similar to the original. The green is very nice, but not that great vibrant Rogers green.
Thanks for the pictures, I never suspected any of the new wraps would be an exact match to a vintage Rogers kit. Since I'm thinking about re-wrapping the whole kit and not just one drum to match, it would look fine in any of those wraps.
I forgot about this snare that I rewrapped myself (the other drum I bought already re-wrapped) . Again more white than the vintage silver but it looks good by itself and similar to the other silver sparkle drums in some light. Not a huge deal, a whole set rewrapped in it will match itself just fine.
Just something else to be aware of when deciding on a color.
