Greetings,
I recently picked up a Rogers "Big R" that was very, VERY dirty and is in need of some TLC, but most of the parts/pieces are there. I'm in the process of cleaning, polishing, and generally restoring them back to their well deserved, new like state, as well as obtaining the few missing parts. Sizes are 13/16/24 and it's finished in black gloss wrap.
My Rogers knowledge is lacking, so I do have a few questions for you Rogers enthusiasts, or anyone else that may know:
1. The shells are very well made and are heavy, even with all the hardware and lugs taken off. The insides of the rack and floor are natural wood. The inside of the bass drum is painted gray with re-rings. Does that sound right? Were these made of 100% Maple? (Floor tom shell shown in pic)
2. I know these are USA made, but what city were they typically produced in? I took a pic of the Serial number on the floor tom for reference. There are no date stamps or tags on the insides of the shells.
3. Timeline wise, were these generally late 70's? Again, see the Serial if that helps.
4. The 24" bass drum has 10 lugs per head. The bottom two are key rod, the other eight are T-rods. I've seen pictures online of some with all 10 being T-rods. Which is correct based on the age of mine/serial number?
5. Finally, I know this is everyone's FAVORITE question here, but what is the general value (I know, VERY subjective) of this Big R kit assuming all original equipment, no extra holes and 8.5 to 9 out of 10 in condition? I know it has the very common and non-sexy gloss black wrap, but the drums are in great shape. Hypothetically, if I were to list these drums for sale (not saying I will), what would you ballpark a fair price to be (shell pack with necessary mounts included)? This a question I would not normally be asking, but again, my Rogers knowledge is not very good, especially this later era of Rogers.
Thanks all and Happy Holidays to each one of my VDF friends!
