Hope all is well with you! In regards to your question, yes, Rogers offered Silver Sparkle. However, up through the mid-70's, it was always a "glass glitter" and not a "hex flake" finish. Hex flakes are what make up all sparkle finishes.

Attached are two pictures of my Celebrity outfit, purchased new in the summer of 1972. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the wrap was "glass glitter".

As to pricing of the Cleveland kit; being a Cleveland kit will increase the value. If the wrap is a "sparkle" and not a "glass glitter", then that would decrease the value. Many would also argue that a re-wrap would also lower the value. I would need to see the shells up close, with heads removed, to judge the quality of the wrap installation, which would also play into the value. However, assuming the wrap is a "sparkle", I'd guestimate a value of around $750 - $850. It just all depends on the wrap job...and how much you want the drums!

$750 for rewrap should have some wiggle room. If done well, he could get his asking price - depends on if he is tight right now.

A few things to note, having looked at the CL advert:

1. The tom holder is not likely to have appeared on a Cleveland era drum set. It would have been the earlier model. Could have been changed out, but Cleveland labels do still show up on drums as late as those produced in Fullerton.

2. In the Cleveland era, it is likely you would have two 8x12's - Top Hat Model. What is shown is the Londoner model.

3. The 9x13 either does not have a tone control or it was placed in an odd position because it cannot be seen. It should be in the panel just to the left of the Rogers script looking from the front of the drum set. There have been isolated cases in the Dayton era when that was not the case - essentially a factory error. Once you arrive to Fullerton, they moved them to be opposite the Swivo mount so as to be more universally used.

All this just to say, along with the valid comments above, that if the value is being considered to be one amount or the other because they are "Cleveland" drums, you need to check to see if that is truly the case. My guess - late Dayton/early Fullerton.

Another note on true Cleveland (ie pre-CBS) drums that you may already know - they will have solid gray paint. If its speckled paint, its an old Cleveland paper tag being used up.

And, to add to more interesting facts, I've seen solid gray shells with "Dayton" paper tags! There's always a fair amount of "transition" shells. And, let's not forget that the drums were still made in Covington and it took a little while to receive the new "Dayton" labels.
